BETHANY MEN COME OUT VICTORIOUS AGAINST AVILA
Kansas City, Mo. - The Bethany Men's Basketball team traveled to Avila University for their second conference matchup of the season. The Swedes left Kansas City with their second win against the Eagles this season, 79-68.
The Swedes set the tone from the start by getting on the board first and playing sound defense. An eight point run put the Swedes up eight to zip with 16:10 left on the clock. The Swedes continued the trend by immediately going on an eleven point run, making the score 19-2 with 12:56 left on the clock before the Eagles scored again. The Eagles woke up and creeped back into the game by the time half time rolled around. The Swedes finished the first half up by six, 41-35.
At the start of the second half the Swedes and the Eagles stayed within close range. With 9:49 left on the clock Bethany reached a ten point lead after a three made by senior Justin Brookens, making the score 59-49. Both teams continued to score but the Eagles were never able to make up ground. The Swedes kept the lead till the end of the second half, securing the win 79-68.
Brookens led the Swedes, scoring 29 points and also had 5 assists and 5 rebounds. Solomon Clayton followed suit with 23 points with 8 rebounds. Dylan Smith scored 12 points, had 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals.
Bethany had a 49.1 shooting percentage compared to Avila's 35.8 shooting percentage. The Swedes shot 38.5 percent from behind the three point line.
