BETHANY RETURNS VICTORIOUS FROM OTTAWA

Ottawa, Kan. - The Bethany Men's Basketball team traveled to Ottawa University and came back with their 4th consecutive win. It took the Swedes a little work to come back but they chipped away and secured the win 72-55. 

 

The Swedes took a second to warm up against the Braves as they were behind for the first ten minutes of the game. A three pointer by Malcom Clayton tied the game up at thirteen with 10:49 left on the clock. The Braves and the Swedes were going back and forth as Bethany attempted to get a concrete lead on Ottawa. The efforts of Kobe Samake Krajnc did not go unnoticed as he made a couple jumpers that made the score 25-18 with 5:54 left in the first half. Two good jump shots by Solomon Clayton and Maurice Cudjo II put the Swedes up to finish the half up 31-27. 

 

Dylan Smith didn't skip a beat as the second half started by making three jumpers and a free throw in the first three minutes of the game, extending the Swedes lead by 14 points. The Swedes remained ahead against the Braves with the efforts of S. Clayton and Smith. The Braves chipped away at the score and came within three of the Swedes at 7:22. This sparked a fire in the Swedes as they went on a six point run as Justin Brookens, Smith, and M. Clayton all made jumpers, making the score 59-50. Ottawa responded with a three but Bethany answered back by extending their lead by seventeen by the time the clock hit 0:00. The game ended 72-55. 

 

Dylan Smith led the Swedes offense with 23 points on the night. Smith had 10 jump shots and made all three free throws, along with 4 assists and 5 rebounds. Solomon Clayton followed suit with 12 points, 13 rebounds, an assist, 2 steals, and a block. Justin Brookens scored double digits points with 10 and had 3 steals, 5 assists, and 6 rebounds. The Swedes had a shooting percentage of 47.8 compared to the 31.9 shooting percentage of the Braves. Bethany had 49 rebounds compared to Ottawa's 38.

The Swedes will host Saint Mary University on Saturday, January 28 in Hahn Gymnasium. Tip off is scheduled for 7:00PM.
