SWEDES HANDLE BUSINESS AGAINST BLUEJAYS
Hillsboro, Kan. - The Bethany Men's Basketball team traveled to Tabor College for a conference matchup against the Bluejays. The Swedes stayed ahead for the majority of the game and finished strong with a fifteen point lead, 75-60.
The game started off close with Tabor and the Swedes switching leads until the Swedes hopped in the lead after a jump shot made by Dylan Smith, making the score 7-5. The Bluejays then scored a free throw and a jumpshot to put them one behind the Swedes at 9-8 with 14:49 left on the clock.
The Swedes then took a hold of the reins and went on a fourteen point run to put them up 23-8 with 8:27 left. Tabor tried to chip away at the score but Bethany kept their rhythm and extended their lead to nineteen points after two jumpshots made by Dylan Smith and Maurice Cudjo II, making the score 33-14 with 5:52 showing on the clock.
Tabor strung a few points together before the half ended, shrinking the lead that the Swedes had, making the score 39-29 at intermission. The second half started and the Swedes were able to keep the lead in the double digits. A couple three's made by Josh Smith and Malcolm Clayton put the Swedes up 67-48 to hit a nineteen point lead once again with 7:47 left. The Swedes kept up the pace and secured the game 75-60.
Justin Brookens scored 19 points on the night with 6 rebounds, an assist, and 3 steals. Solomon Clayton scored 14 points, had 4 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Dylan Smith also also scored double digits with 11 points, had 4 rebounds, and 3 assists.
Bethany scored 26 points off of 17 forced turnovers. The Swedes had a shooting percentage of 52.8 and shot 41.7 percent from behind the 3 point line. Bethany had an 82.4 free throw percentage compared to the Bluejays free throw percentage of 54.5.

The Swedes will be back on the wood this Wednesday, February 8th in Hahn Gymnasium against York University. Tip off is set for 8:00PM.
