SWEDES WIN STREAK HAULTED; FALL TO MOUNDBUILDERS
Winfield, Kan. – The Bethany College Men's Basketball Team took the road to Winfield, Kansas to face the 20th ranked Southwestern College Moundbuilders in a meaningful KCAC matchup. The Swedes came in on a two-game win streak against ranked opponents.
To open the game, Solomon Clayton would get things started with a layup on the first possession followed by a made jump shot by Malcolm Clayton to give the Swedes a 4-0 lead. The Moundbuilders would start to get it going as they would quickly tie things up 6-6. Dylan Smith would break the tie with a midrange jumper, but Southwestern would answer back with a 14-0 run to take a 20-8 lead. From there, Bethany would keep cutting the Moundbuilders' lead to single digits, but Southwestern would answer right back to push it back to double-digits. The Swedes would find themselves down 47-34 at halftime.
In the second half, Bethany would score the first 5 points by way of a Justin Brookens three-pointer and a Dylan Smith fast break layup. Southwestern would find its groove soon after as they would score 12 in a row to push the lead up to 20. The Moundbuilders wouldn't look back as they would take this one 89-63.
Justin Brookens would be the lone Swede to crack double-digit scoring with 25 points. Solomon Clayton would grab a team-high 8 rebounds. As for defense, Dylan Smith would tally 5 steals and Solomon Clayton would record 3 blocks to add to his school record.
As a team, Bethany would force 15 Southwestern turnovers that lead to 16 points.

The Swedes will have senior night against the McPherson College Bulldogs on February 15th. This will be the final game of the regular season for Bethany as they have a bye on Saturday. The Swedes are locked in at the 5-seed for the KCAC playoffs and will wait to see if they play at Bethel or Southwestern in the first round.
