SWEDES BEAT KANSAS WESLEYAN 6-2
Lindsborg, Kan. - The Bethany College Men's Soccer team hosted rival Kansas Wesleyan University on Wednesday night.
The Swedes will go on to win by the score of 6-2 thanks to the offensive help from Benito Ausley picking up the hat trick, and goals by Steven McQueen, Abraham Arrieta, and Inigo Frenandez. The players of the game were Benito Ausley picking up 3 goals and Shaid Mclean picking up 5 assists in the match. With the victory that brings the Swedes conference record to 3-3-1, and Kansas Wesleyan's conference record now to 0-7.
In the first half the energy of the rivalry was present. Kansas Wesleyan jumped out of the gates hot, picking up their first goal in the 6th minute of the game by Alfonso Lopez. They carried that momentum throughout the first 15 minutes of the game controlling the ball while taking 6 shots in the half. The Swedes would not let that bring them down as they continued to take shots of their own. In the 22nd minute of the match Shaid Mclean and Angel Silva were able to move the ball around until they connected with Benito Ausley in the box to take the shot and bring the match all tied up at 1-1. Just before the first half ended, the Swedes were able to tack on another goal when Inigo Frenandez took the open shot to put the Swedes up 2-1.
In the second half of the match the offensive explosion for the Swedes continued. Just 58 seconds into the half Benito Ausley picked up his 2nd goal of the game thanks to an assist by Shaid Mclean to bring the score to 3-1. Benito Asuley would not be stopped as just 8 minutes later in the 53rd minute of the match he was able to find the back of the net for a third time. On the goal Shaid Mclean and Steven McQueen were given the assist and the match was 4-1 Swedes. Kansas Wesleyan was able to capitalize on a defensive error by the Swedes that gave Brooklyn Butler-Swanger an open shot to score. That would be all they would get in the game, while the Swedes picked up two more goals both which were assisted by Shaid Mclean. Abraham Arrieta scored in the 79th minute from a corner kick, and Steven McQueen put back a nice header in the 88th minute to seal the win for the Swedes.
