SWEDES OPEN SEASON WITH A TIE VS TIGERS

LINDSBORG, KAN. – On Friday, August 25, the Swedes took the field to open their season against county opponent, the Central Christian College Tigers.

The first half was fairly quiet and both teams were sizing each other up and looking for weaknesses to exploit. In the 14th minute, the Tigers would look to strike first with a shot by Aliyah Moya, but Molly Atchley, who started for the Swedes as goalie, recorded her first save of the season. In the 16th minute, Mariah would attempt a deep shot from 30 yards but would sail it over the goal. Right before halftime, Andrea Garza would attempt a shot but it was saved by Central Christian's Katelyn Beckman. The half would end with neither team scoring a goal.

The second half is where all of the action could be found if shot attempts is what you are looking for. To open the match, Head Coach Shane Taylor switched goalies replacing Atchley with Sydney Newberg. It wouldn't take long for the action to start as Andrea Garza took a shot in the 50th minute, but it was saved by the Tigers. Jacqueline Escalera would continue to apply pressure sailing a shot high just two minutes later. In the 67th minute, Aliyah Moya would break the seal as Stephanie Zazueta would find her on a break to put the Tigers up 1-0. The Swedes wouldn't have to wait too long to answer back. In the 72nd minute, Skyler Armstrong would pass it back to Escalera who would cross it, splitting two defenders, to Jysell Sampedro who would then place the ball in the top left corner of the goal to even it up at 1-1.

As a team, the Swedes would outshoot the Tigers 10 shots to 6. Central Christian would attempt the lone corner kick of the contest.

Molly Atchley would tally one save on one shot on goal. Sydney Newberg would record one save on two shots on goal. Andrea Garza would lead the Swedes in shots with 3 and tie with Jysell Sampedro with shots on goal with 2. Skyler Armstrong and Andrea Garza would each end with 1 assist.
