SWEDES TAKE ON THE VIKING INVITATIONAL

Marshall, Mo. - The Bethany College Swedes traveled to Marshall, Missouri to compete in the Viking Invitational. The Bethany Volleyball team fell three sets to none in their first three games and lost the fourth game in four sets.  

In the first game of the weekend the Vikings were able to upend the Swedes 25-13 in the first set. In the second set Bethany was neck and neck with Missouri Valley before the Vikings secured the set 25-20. The Swedes fell behind in the third set and were unable to comeback. The second game started off with the Ravens coming out strong and beat the Swedes in the first set 25-11. Bethany then woke up and fought in the second and third set, falling just short both sets 25-23. 

In the first match the Swedes were led by Atlantis Jamerson, junior outside hitter, who finished with 16 assists and 6 digs. Alyssa George, junior outside hitter, finished the match with 5 kills and 4 digs. Zola Moore, junior middle blocker, had 4 kills and 5 digs. In the second game of the day sophomore libero Cameron Boyd led the team with 12 digs while Alyssa George and Parker Stevens both had 7 digs. Coming off the bench, senior outside hitter, Britta Romisch had 6 kills. Atlantis Jamerson the Swedes with 18 assists.  

The following day the Swedes went head-to-head against Graceland University Stings. Bethany came out ready to play and just barely lost the first set 26-24. Bethany battled the second and third set and barely came up short, losing both sets 25-23. In the second game of the day the Swedes played the Wildcats. The Swedes started this match on a strong note and lost the first set 27-25. Bethany used the momentum from the first set and won the second set 25-18. The Wildcats then came back in the third set and won 25-15. The Swedes hung in there for the fourth set before the Wildcats secured a 25-21 victory.  

In the first match Justice Brackney, senior middle blocker, led the Swedes with 7 kills. Atlantis Jamerson followed up with 5 kills, 6 digs, and 16 assists. Cameron Boyd held her own with 12 digs. In the second match of the day and last match of the weekend Alyssa George finished with 11 kills and 7 digs. Zola Moore held her own with 8 kills while Danairis Ortiz Reyes, freshman setter had 20 assists. Atlantis Jamerson also earned a spot on the All-Invitational Team by stepping in as a setter for the weekend due to injuries. 

 

Up Next... 

The Swedes will be back in action Saturday, September 3 in Wichita, Kansas for the Freddy Tri-Meet. The first game of the double header will be at 1:00PM against Southwestern College. The second match is scheduled to begin at 3:00 PM against Friends University.
