SWEDES FALL SHORT IN FREDDY TRI-FACE OFF

Wichita, Kan. - The Bethany College Swedes Volleyball team traveled to Wichita, Kansas to play in the Freddy Tri-Meet. The volleyball team lost both matches of the day in four sets against both Southwestern College and Friends University.  

In the first game of the day the Swedes started off on the right foot, leading the first set until Southwestern went on a 7-point streak. The Swedes were not able to overcome the 7-point deficit and lost the first set 25-22. Bethany scored first in the second set but Southwestern managed to get ahead and stay ahead, taking the set 25-17. The third set was neck and neck between the Swedes and the Jinx, they were tied at 14 when the Swedes went on a 5-point streak that Southwestern was not able to recover from. The Swedes won the third set 25-23. The fourth set was also back and forth, with the set tied throughout. The Southwestern Jinx went on a 5-point streak securing the game 25-20.  

Britta Romisch, senior outside hitter, led the team in kills with 10. Followed by Alyssa George, junior outside hitter, and Atlantis Jamerson, junior right side, who both had 8 kills each. Jamerson also led the Swedes in digs with 16, followed close behind by Cameron Boyd, sophomore defensive specialist, who had 15 digs.  

The Swedes had a slow start in the second match of the day, losing the first set to the Falcons, 15-25. In the second set the Swedes started behind but tied it up at 11. After the Falcons took a timeout, they went on a 7-point run making the score 18-11 before the Swedes scored again. Friends University then went on another 7-point run, finishing the second set 25-12. Bethany bounced back in the third set and was able to win the set 25-22. The Swedes kept the momentum into the fourth set and competed until the last few sets. The Swedes lost the fourth set 25-22.  

Atlantis Jamerson led the Swedes with 8 kills, 6 digs, and 19 assists. Alyssa George had 12 kills and 3 assists. Cameron Boyd had 19 digs with Destinee Roby, sophomore defensive specialist, not too far behind with 16 digs.

The Swedes will be back on the court on Tuesday, September 6 in Hahn Gymnasium for the Swedes home opener against Manhattan Christian College. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:00PM.
