SWEDES FALL TO THE STARS

The Swedes took on the Stephens College Stars, Saturday September 16th, 2023.

The Stars got hot from the start leading the Swedes 5-1. The Stars stayed steady as the Swedes lessen the lead and got within three; 6-9. After several kills, the Stars once again maintained a steady lead 12-6. The Swedes responded with 4 kills of their own, three of which were by Autry Satica bringing them within one of the Stars, 11-12. Midway through the set, both teams were swinging and finding success going point for point with one another at 15-15. The Stars capitalized on a hitting error and extended their lead 19-15. Bethany was unable to close the gap, Stephens won 25-19.

Set two started with the Swedes taking the Stars point for point, with the largest lead being three at 13-10 in favor of the Stars. Once again, the Swedes closed the gap and tied the set at 19-19. Stephens used an attack error made by the Swedes to take pivotal lead at 22-20. Bethany worked hard to close the gap but were unable to take the set, losing 21-25 to the Stars.

Set three proved to be essential for the Swedes if they had hope to still win the match. Stephens feeling the pressure to sweep the Swedes, took an early lead at 7-3. Bethany chipped away at the lead but the Stars were able to maintain their lead throughout the set and extended it to 21-13. The Swedes needed to regroup fast if they were to have a chance for a comeback. Bethany utilized several attack errors and service errors made by the Stars to get to 16-22. The Stars responded with critical kills finishing the set 25-19.

Notable stats from this game include, 10 kills by Atlantis Jamerson, 2 blocks by Melia Coleman, and 12 digs by libero Michelle Acevedo Ortiz.

The Swedes turn around and go to North Newton to take on the Bethel Threshers for their conference opener, Tuesday September 19. JV set to start at 5:30pm and Varsity at 7pm.
