SWEDES SUFFER LOSS TO THE BULLDOGS
McPherson, Kan.- Bethany College was on the road Wednesday, October 11, against McPherson College.
Set one started with a hopeful beginning with the Bulldogs capturing a small lead over the Swedes at 6-4. McPherson slowly grew that lead to 9-5. At which point Bethany struggled to slow down McPherson's speedy offense. The Bulldogs quickly went on a devasting run at 15-8. Bethany tried to make adjustments to slow down McPherson but they continued to hammer the Swedes at the net. The lead grew yet again to 18-9. The Swedes hung there and were able to take a few more points from the Bulldogs before McPherson took the set at 25-13.
Set two began with both teams going point for point until McPherson took the slight lead at 5-4. The Bulldogs pushed forward and extended their lead over the Swedes at 9-4. Bethany struggled to slow down the Bulldogs who were determined to finish out the set with another win. Bethany found themselves down by eight at 6-14. At which point McPherson took off on a incredible run that finished out the set at 25-7.
Bethany wasn't ready to give up on the match and came out in set three determined to steal the third set and force a fourth set. The Swedes stayed with the Bulldogs who managed to gain a slight advantage at 7-4 but McPherson would soon extend that lead to five at 10-5. The Bulldogs gained three more points before Bethany hit their stride and went on a run. Being down by seven, the Swedes cut that down to five at 10-15. This would be the turning point for the set. McPherson got hot and went up on the Swedes by eight at 19-11. Bethany refused to give up and chipped away at the lead, scoring in three's, 14-23, 15-23, 16-23. And again at 17-24, 18-24, 19-24. Unfortunately, the lead was too large for the Swedes to overcome and McPherson took the third set for a sweep over Bethany at 25-19.
