IT’S A SWEDE SWEEP; 3-0 OVER MOUNDBUILDERS
Lindsborg, Kan.- Bethany College hosted the Southwestern Moundbuilders, Saturday, November 4 for the last regular season conference game and also senior night.
The Swedes celebrated their six seniors, Atlantis Jamerson, Leamaris Fuentes Torres, Leaneris Fuentes Torres, Parker Stevens, Tyara Smith, and Zola Moore prior to the start of the first set.
Swedes came out of the gate hot in set one with a four-point advantage at 4-0 over the Moundbuilders. Southwestern worked hard to come back and got within one of the Swedes at 4-5. Bethany would continue to attack the net and went on another run to lead by 3 at 9-6. Once again Southwestern chipped away at the lead and got within one point of Bethany at 9-10. Bethany would adjust and regain their advantage after going on a run of four at 14-10. The Moundbuilders would try to close the gap but the Swedes held them off until Southwestern went on a run at 16-20. The Moundbuilders would tie the set up at 21-21. The Swedes responded and shut down Southwestern to take the set at 25-22.
Set two got started with a small lead for the Moundbuilders until Bethany responded with a five-point run to put them ahead by three at 6-3. The Swedes would continue to attack and found themselves up by 6 at 13-7. Southwestern struggled to adjust while Bethany dominated the net. Bethany would extend their lead to 9 at 23-14. The Moundbuilders mustered what they could to score an additional three points before the Swedes closed out the set at 25-17.
Set three marked the start of the end for the Moundbuilders after a tie at 5-5 and Bethany went on a five-point run to lead at 10-5. Southwestern rallied and came back to tie the set at 10-10. The Moundbuilders would continue to push and gain a slight advantage over the Swedes at 14-12. Bethany would tie the set up at 14-14. Both teams traded points with several ties until Bethany gained the advantage at 22-19. Southwestern did what they could but the Swedes were on a roll and ended the set at 25-22 for the sweep.
Notable stats from this game include, 12 kills by Zola Moore, 3 blocks by Madison McGuire, and 35 digs by Michelle Acevedo.
Up next for the Swedes, is the first round of the KCAC tournament where they travel to Tabor College on Tuesday, November 7th.
