SWEDES DROP SERIES 0-4 AT HOME

Lindsborg, Kan. - The Bethany College Baseball team had their first home series of the year against Briar Cliff University. The Swedes unfortunately could not pick up a win as they dropped all four games in the series.

In game one of the series the Swedes got shutout 12-0 in seven innings. Judd McCall got the game one start on the mound and went two and a thirds inning, with four hits, nine runs, three walks and striking out five. Fist in relief was the crafty lefty Kenney Nieves who lasted an inning and two thirds, allowing two hits, no runs, and one strikeout. Koy Jorgenson got his first appearance of the year and went three innings, four hits, three runs, and no walks or strikeouts. Offensively the Swedes tallied four hits in the game with Emanuel Alicea racking up two singles to right field. Andrew Massey, and designated hitter, Caleb Rodirguez were also to get a hit in the ballgame. As a team the Swedes struck out nine times in the shutout.

Game two of the series was not much different than game one for the Swedes. Briar Cliff was mashing the baseball no matter who was on the mound as they won by the score of 16-7. The starter for the Swedes was the tall lefty Willian Figueroa-Soto. He did not have the stuff to keep the bats quiet as he went two thirds of an inning allowing two hits, seven runs with four earned, and five walks with no strikeouts. Alfredo Cruz came in relief and lasted two and a third innings allowing three hits, 3 runs with one earned, four walks and four strikeouts. The Swedes had to use three more pitchers in the game as Carlos Guzman, William Boswell, and John Alvarez all made an appearance in the game. Offensively the Swedes scored one in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by Joseph Rivera to score Noel Perez. They would get two runs in the bottom half of the third inning and four runs in the bottom of the seventh.

In game three of the series the Swedes would lose 12-5. Willard Frizzell started on the mound for the Swedes and lasted three and two thirds innings, one hit, seven earned runs, seven walks, and seven strikeouts. The Swedes offense just could not get anything going despite outhitting Briar Cliff. The Swedes tallied eight hits and scored one run in the bottom of the second, third, sixth innings, and two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The final game of the series had the same results as Briar Cliff was too dominant for the Swedes. They would win by the score of 11-0. On the mound for the Swedes was two-way player Payton Walk and he went one and a thirds innings giving up five hits, seven runs with six earned and three walks. The Swedes would use many arms in the final game of the series as Edwardo Vasquez, Bryant Baez, Keiber Gutierrez, and Mauicio Hernandez all made an appearance. Offensively the Swedes were held to five hits on the day with Joseph Rivera counting for two of them.
