Fulton, Mo. – The Bethany College Swedes Volleyball team took the road to Fulton, Missouri to open their season in a triangular hosted by William Woods University. The Swedes lost both matches of the evening.
St. Mary-Woods 3, Bethany 1
In the first match against St. Mary-Woods College, Bethany started off hot as the Swedes would take the first four points in the first set as Mandy Knipp scored three of the first four points including two service aces. The Pomeroys would get it together and close the first set 25-14.
The second set opened with some back-and-forth action as both teams would give up two points each, but the Swedes began to get on a roll soon after. Following a service error on the SMWC, Cameron Boyd, Autry Satica, and Samantha Carbajal would each tally a kill surrounding an attack error on the Pomeroys. Bethany was able to maintain the lead through the end of the second set to take the set 25-21 and even the match 1-1.
SMWC was able to take the final two sets of the match to go on and take the match 3-1.
Zola Moore and Autry Satica would tie for the team lead in kills (5). Satica would boast a kill perentage of .571 to go along with a team-high 2 solo blocks. Mandy Knipp totaled 17 assists and 4 service aces. Cameron Boyd tallied a team-high 13 digs.
William Woods 3, Bethany 0
The Swedes started off slow in this one. William Woods took the first set 25-10. In the second set, the Swedes would start to find themselves again turning a 0-3 deficit to a 15-10 lead. Ultimately, the Owls would walk away victorious with a 25-23 set win to make it match point.
William Woods would score first in the third set, but the Swedes would be the ones in control. Bethany would lead most of the way grabbing a 7-point (17-10) lead during the set, but attacking errors would kill the Swedes' momentum. The Owls would fight back, and take the set 26-24 on a 6-1 run.
Atlantis Jamerson would lead the Swedes in total kills (8). Mandy Knipp would lead Bethany with 14 assists to go along with a team-high 9 digs. Cameron Boyd tallied 3 service aces throughout the match.

The Swedes will host their home opener against Peru State University. The match is set to begin at 6pm CT in Lindsborg, Kansas in Hahn Gymnasium.
